However, the point stands: It is an investment, and as such it also has a return of invest. Studies show: The return of invest is bigger than you might think. While many non-fiction authors sell less than a couple thousand copies of their books (which might sound a bit disappointing on first glance), the real value comes on a different level. Because the copies they do end up selling, well: they matter.

What makes a bestseller? What makes a blockbuster? Are bestsellers the best stories and blockbusters the best movies? Well, that depends on the metric you are applying. From a commercial perspective it’s hard to argue anything else: Of course they are the biggest commercial success. But is that all we should focus on?
